Areas of Practice | Labor and Employment

ICAZA, GONZALEZ-RUIZ & ALEMAN has an employment and labor law team well versed both in the regulatory framework that governs this area of law and the industrial relationships reality in various industry sectors.
Often the highlights of this practice come across as the firm takes on major deals for key clients from across the industries, and in particular for big projects (public or private) and infrastructure work, and corporate restructurings, following acquisitions or privatizations, as well as incoming new international investment from corporate clients, but on many occasions we deal with the on-going concerns of our clients in a smaller scale. We are well versed in the details of labor rights and obligations, wages, work schedules, benefits, terminations and compensation as well as in the handling of labor related suits of all kinds, while we can advise on social security matters.
In various occasions we have represented international clients in their installation and start of new operations in Panama, advising on all aspects of labor and employment law, negotiating and drafting documentation. This work was related to a variety of projects, including construction, such as the new landmark Centenary Bridge over the Canal.
We can further advise on the legal aspects of liabilities from pre-existing contracts and collective severances or reductions, following acquisitions, corporate restructurings or closing of business, as well as in the cases that services are contracted by outsourcing.
The employment and labor team worked with clients such as Dell Inc., Bilfinger & Berger AG, Kansas City Southern with Neosho C. America, Hong Kong Dredging Corporation subsidiary of China Harbor Engeneering Co. Ltd., Alireza Mobil Terminal S.A., a joint venture between the Alireza Group and Exxon Mobil, advising them on their new hiring, on-going labor relationships and related conflicts, negotiating with trade unions on disputes and collective bargaining agreements.
