Fernando González-Ruiz M. is an associate with 12 years of experience in Brand Protection and Anti-Counterfeiting, Litigation & ADR, Trademarks, patents, utility models, industrial designs, slogans, copyrights, trade and domain names, and data protection.
He specializes in Trademark Litigation (oppositions and Nullity and Cancellation proceedings, Unfair Competition, Civil and Criminal proceedings regarding IP), Brand Protection, and Anti-Counterfeiting. He also advises on licensing and trademark-related issues in social media, the internet, e-commerce, and advertising. Moreover, he has successfully filed, prosecuted, and obtained trademarks, industrial model registrations, and letters patents for new inventions.
Fernando is an active member of INTA and was appointed once again for the Anti-Counterfeiting committee for 2022-2023, in which he actively participates in the Online Counterfeiting Sub-committee. He is also a member of the Panamanian Association of Intellectual Property Law (APADEPI), participating in the Anti Counterfeit sub-committee and the Copyright Law sub-committee.
In addition, Fernando is one of the lawyers invited to take part in the panel of experts advising the National Customs Authority on the amendments to the current legislation related to the Customs Procedures related to counterfeit goods. He is also a Mentor of AEI Panama (the Alliance for Entrepreneurship and Innovation), and the City of Knowledge’s Startup Investment Program.
Recently, he has been recognized for his work in publications such as WTR1000 and Legal 500.
